Running the Marathon in 2008

January 29th, 2008

Do you ever make commitments to yourself and the kind of kick yourself for making them. Well, I promised myself and several of my close family that I would be running the St. George Marathon in Oct 2008. So let the self-kicking begin.

I went a bought running shoes today at St. George Running Center. www.stgeorgerunningcenter.com. Steve Hooper was there (owner) and helped me into a $90 pair of fancy shoes that help my feet pronate.. or something like that. I don’t know anything about shoes. He was great, but there was no way I could get out of the store without new shoes. Steve was so nice, I felt like I could keep my credit card in my pocket. Im just glad that he wasent selling something more expensive, like timeshares or used cars.

Nevertheless, the shoes are like running on fluffy white clouds. They are much better than my basketball shoes I have been using to run the couple of miles at the gym.

So I am on my way to the St. George Marathon. Steve suggested that I get started with the Hurricane 10K in march. Sounds like a plan. I have really never ran for much of anything, so this should be fun.

Extermination Nation

January 13th, 2008

What is so exciting about Externmination Nation?  So very much.  This is where pest control buiness owners can come and share ideas, encouragement, and stories.

Over the last few weeks I have been researching PBX systems for my pest control office.  PBX stands for a Private Branch eXchange.  Basically its a phone switch in your office that routes all calls that come.  It controls voice-mail, greetings, extensions, and external and internal call transfers.

We have two hard phone lines, and two viop lines through Vonage.  We use one of the Vonage lines as a fax line.   We also have been forwarding the phones to a cell phone after a three rings.

Right now I am experimenting with gotvmail.com.  I signed up for an account for $60 or so and have just started to play around with it.  I have also looked at onebox.com.  Onebox.com seems to have more market share and cheaper deal overall.   Both charge a monthly fee for minutes that callers are on the phone system and a per minute charge after that of between $.05 and $.08 cents.

If anyone in the industry has had some history with these phone systems, please post your experiences.

I will post again when I have used the PBX systems in my office.
